WHAT

HOW
DO AFFIRMATIONS WORK?
TO
ILLUSTRATE THE LAST FEW POINTS MY FAVOURITE
EXAMPLES:
WHAT
ARE AFFIRMATIONS?
An
affirmation is a statement we make about life or
ourselves - some of these we "absorb" from
significant people in our environments and others
we arrive at by ourselves. Be that as it may, they
influence us directly, and largely determine how
our lives will develop.
An
affirmation is a statement of word, thought,
feeling, or an action that underlies or confirms
a belief pattern that we hold.
There are negative affirmations and positive
affirmations - both equally powerful.
Negative affirmations can make our lives
miserable, while positive affirmations can help us
change things for the better.
HOW
DO AFFIRMATIONS WORK?
 |
To
understand this, you have to know a little about
how the subconscious mind works: |
 |
The
subconscious is not rational |
 |
The
subconscious mind does not understand grey areas
of thinking - it interprets everything
as either very good or very bad. For example,
if you tell yourself that something is bad, your
subconscious will believe you and will assume that
it is really very bad. Equally, your subconscious
will believe that something is very good if you
tell it so. |
 |
Your
subconscious is very literal in its interpretation
of what you say, and will follow your instructions
to the last detail. So, be very careful of what
and how you say it, because it will come true in
yourself. That reminds me of the saying "whether
you believe that you can or whether you believe
that you can't, you are right." |
 |
Your
subconscious thinks that things are important if
you spend a lot of time doing, saying, feeling or
thinking them. |
 |
The
more you repeat something, the more it becomes a
habit - good or bad. |
 |
Your
subconscious cannot distinguish between correct
and incorrect information. |
 |
You
do not have to want something consciously for it
to influence you… |
TO
ILLUSTRATE THE LAST FEW POINTS MY FAVOURITE
EXAMPLES:
 |
Do
you remember how you learned the times-tables at
school? |
Probably by saying them over and over until you
could practically recite them in your sleep
(nowadays with calculators it may be a different
story?). 2x2= 4, 3x2=6, 4x2=8 …etc. etc.
Do
you remember the times-tables to this day? I would
think so, especially the easier ones because they
got repeated so many times. The sixteen times
table however, which did not get repeated as
often, has probably slipped from your mind.
Did
you want to learn the times tables? If you
knew what was good for you, yes. But, even if you
didn't particularly enjoy the activity, it was
necessary to do arithmetic properly and was useful
when you wanted to buy things from shops.
 |
Do you watch TV or go to the movies? If yes,
you might well agree that after only a few
times of seeing them, you recognise, if not
know the advertisements. Did you want to learn
them? I don't think so. But, just because they
are repeated often, and are striking, amusing
or irritating, they engrave themselves upon
your brain. The information is there, whether
you like it or not |
These principles apply to other aspects of your
life too! For example, if you constantly tell
yourself that you are ugly, stupid, too fat, too
thin, not good enough or bad in some way, your
subconscious will oblige and voila! There you have
it!
So,
start tuning in to what you think and say to
yourself - it could change your life!

you have had any experience with affirmations,
