You are urged to
find a person who works in the area that you are
concerned about.
Your doctor is an
important person in your life and where
appropriate should be informed that you are seeing
a psychologist.
Psychologists are
registered with the Professional Beard for
Psychology which faIls under the control of the
Health Professions Council of South Africa under
the following categories:
Clinical,
Counselling, Educational, Industrial and Research
Psychology.
Whilst much of the
training overlaps, it is a professional
requirement that psychologists have had training
in the area in which they practice and you are
invited to enquire about specialisation in
different areas.
MEDICAL TARIFFS/AIDS
It is Important
that you clarify with your psychologist which
tariff will be charged as not all psychologists
contract in to Medical Aids. Your Medical Aid Book
should tell you whether they cover psychological
services. Most psychologists are open to
negotiation regarding fees, provided the
negotiation happens prior to receiving the
service. You will be asked to fill in a contract
form and the form will specify what the
psychologist’s fee structure is. Tariffs for
forensic work are to be negotiated.
It is important
that you establish your Medical Aid ceiling and
whether you are required by
your Medical Aid to
get a Medical Doctor's referral .
Find a psychologist
who can help you release the past and write your
own positive future!
