DR. HANNETJIE EDELING
BSc Diet. Dip Hosp.Diet.  MA Psych Couns. D Litt et Phil

 

Hannetjie’s disciplines are the unusual combination of dietetics, psychology and hypnosis.  She is in Private Practice and holds workshops and talks for the public and professionals about preventive nutrition, stress, eating disorders, ethics and spiritual living. She has appeared on TV and radio, and regularly advises journalists about nutrition, psychology and esoteric matters. She has contributed as author to books on Trauma and Supervision of Lay Counsellors.
 

In her work her particular emphasis is on the connection of mind and body as expressed in various illnesses, symptoms and dreams. She believes that we can learn to understand the communications from our bodies and subconscious and can, and should, find meaning in our lives and circumstances. Her mission is to help people balance and control their physical, mental, emotional and spiritual selves and grow to reach their fullest potential.

Her formal qualifications include a BSc Dietetics (Cum Laude - 1972) and Diploma in Hospital Dietetics (1973), an Honours degree (Cum Laude) in Psychology at the Rand Afrikaans University (1987), and a Masters degree in psychology at UNISA (1989).  For her doctorate at RAU in 1994, she studied the physical and mental interactions leading to, and maintaining the eating disorder Bulimia. 

She has also studied Reiki, Esoteric healing, Hypnosis, Neuro-linguistic Programming, Eye Movement Integration, Kinesioplogy, Transactional Analysis and Astrology.

She belongs to several professional organisations and has held various leadership positions on their committees.

She loves gardening, jazz, walking, painting, photography, reading and art movies. She is happily married, has two children and two step-children and has just become a grandmother.  She lives and works in Houghton, Johannesburg.
 

ME. KARIN STEYN

Karin van Zyl-Steyn is a counselling psychologist in private practice. She follows an integrative and holistic approach to psychotherapy and counselling that utilises various cognitive, behavioural, affective and physiological techniques. She believes that individuals have access to all possible internal resources to resume balance on a mental, emotional, physical and spiritual level and it is her mission is to assist individuals to reconnect with their unique meaning and purpose in life.

As a hypnotherapist, Karin has great respect for the body-mind connection and the power of the subconscious mind, as can often be seen in the analysis of dreams, symptoms and illnesses.

As a HypnoBirthing instructor, she combines her passion for hypnotherapy as well as pregnancy and parenting issues in assisting parents-to-be in creating a natural birthing experience that is calm, relaxed and at times even pain free. As part of the childbirth education group, “It’s a Joy”, she advises on the importance of emotional preparation for pregnancy, childbirth and parenting. Another special area is her work with sensitive and spiritual children.

Karin does voluntary counselling for FAMSA and the TraumaClinic, and has gained experience in many areas of human problems including trauma counselling, bereavement, marriage guidance and preparation, career guidance, depression and anxiety, eating disorders, and parenting skills. She has given talks to the public and facilitated adolescent groups where issues of identity, assertiveness and general emotional intelligence were discussed.

Her formal qualifications include a BA General (Cum Laude - 1998) and an Honours degree in Psychology (1999) at the Rand Afrikaans University, as well as a Masters degree in Counselling Psychology at WITS (2005).

She has also studied hypnosis, Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP), Transactional Analysis (TA) and Eye Movement Integration (EMI) and belongs to several professional organisations.

She loves cooking, jazz, walking, mosaic and stained glass work, travel, reading and movies. She is happily married and has just become a first-time mother.

ME. ANNE-MARIE MOORE


EDUCATION: Anne-Marie was born and schooled in Johannesburg. During that time she studied music where she attained the highest grade. She qualified as a Nursery School teacher specializing in music and art. She tutored children with leaning difficulties and taught music therapy at the Wits School for hearing impaired children as well as at the Autistic School in Parktown. She taught at the Schmirembeck centre – a learning group for gifted children at the Teachers’ Training Centre.
 

CREATIVITY: She continues to teach, calligraphy, art and creativity being her special interests. She has presented classes to various art and calligraphy groups throughout South Africa and travels overseas to extend her skills. Anne-Marie has compiled a calligraphy correspondence course for students unable to attend local classes. She has participated in several calligraphy and art exhibitions and her work can be found in collections both here and abroad.
 Together with a friend, Anne-Marie initiated the Craftmasters Art and Craft fair with Country Life magazine. Anne-Marie has completed counseling courses through the Family Life Centre. Aware of the appalling incidence of child abuse in South Africa she motivated the Art Doll Project with MJ Hooper. This art collaboration with 15 artists raised R60000 for the Teddy Bear Clinic a centre for abused children in Johannesburg.
She has recently returned from India where she worked in an Art Therapy programme for Tibetan children in Dharamsala.
FAMILY: Anne-Marie is married to David, a specialist veterinary physician and photographer. She has three children: twin sons John [an artist] and David [a pediatrician] and a daughter Elizabeth [BA Psych Honours and marketing]. Her two grandchildren Rachel and Ashleigh together with her daughter-in-law Juanita are the latest members of the family.
WRITING: Anne-Marie has written five books on calligraphy. ‘Tainted Angels’ a book incorporating art, prose and poetry discussing child abuse was written after the Art Doll Project. All proceeds from this book are donated to the Teddy Bear Clinic. She writes short stories and poetry. Her work has been published in several collaborative books and on her website www.creative-escapes.co.za. She has contributed articles to websites, magazines and journals.
LATEST PROJECTS:
She is evolving creative programmes for children which will encourage creativity, self-expression and confidence. She has been invited to contribute to the www.freechildcompany.co.za  website.
